Important Information & Rules
The cost to enter the Masquerade is $5 CAD. Your donation supports Con-G and the CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association National).
We accept non-Canadian entries; however, if you do not live in Canada, you are NOT eligible for physical awards (we have digital ones).
The time limit is now **90 seconds** (this is new this year – so 1 minute 30 seconds). You do not need to fill all 90 seconds to make a good entry.
There are several ways to be judged in our Masquerade:
- Workmanship Judging where the costume is made by you and you want your craftsmanship judged
- Stage Performance is where the costume can either made by you or Purchased (must say so) and judged just on your video entry
- BOTH Workmanship and Stage Judging (Costume made by you and you want it judged on your craftmanship and showmanship)
- Out of Competition (You want to show off but don’t need any awards or prizes)
Remember a good stage performance does not need to be a skit; work your stage/area and show off all aspects/sides of your costume and hard work. To enter the workmanship judging, submit a short build book (pdf or word type file) with reference photos of the costume and work in progress and close ups of the costume details. AND/OR You can also send a short video of the costume being worn, going over the build (3 min), much like how you would present it to the judges in person (this will only be seen by the judges). **At Master level you require a build book**
The Con-G Masquerade follows the ICG guidelines with a few twists. As such we will have categories for Novice, Journeyman, Artisan, and Young Fan. Click here if you need help figuring out what you are. Plus our Virtual Exclusive – The Animal Division.

General Virtual Masquerade Suggestions
- Give yourself a good sized area to perform and set the camera so we can see all of the costume and performance.
- Have a clean background if you can so we don’t lose you in clutter
- We will not be remixing audio – send up the video with the audio version you want. Play it really loud when you perform or add the audio track over your video yourself.
- You can use skits performed at other events as long as the video quality is good. (and no big awards were won)
- If you’ve never entered a masquerade – ask in our discord or watch our previous masqs for ideas.
- Be Safe
- Have Fun
General Virtual Masquerade Rules
- No nudity or inappropriate material or references. Keep your performance to a PG-13
- The Masquerade Directors reserve the right to eliminate anyone from competition at their discretion, feel free to ask any of the staff in our discord if you’re unsure (preferably with enough time you can change your idea).
- Absolutely no dangerous actions in your skit (be safe).
- No inappropriate material in the background (non PG-13 stuff in the background still makes a PG-13 skit inappropriate).
- Special effects are allowed (go for it!) but will not affect judging (example; someone throwing paper cut out lightning bolts is equal to someone throwing cgi lightning bolts). We strongly encourage entrants to be creative. But please no AI.
- Only Canadian entries will be eligible for prizes but anyone internationally can enter.
- Now that we’ve included animals – all entries with animals must state no animals were be harmed during the filming of their skits.
